To address the growing importance of the livestock sector in Nigeria’s economy and food security, the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, chaired by President Tinubu, was established.
This committee was tasked with formulating a strategic plan for the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development (FMLD). The committee’s role is to guide the creation of policies, frameworks, and strategies to manage Nigeria’s livestock resources sustainably.
Technical assistance was needed to ensure that the new ministry’s foundation was built on robust, data-driven, and effective structures.
Strategy Design & Implementation:
Sydani provided technical assistance to the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee to develop the strategic plan for the Ministry’s establishment. This involved conducting comprehensive desk research, offering expert guidance on the proposed organizational structure, and supporting the drafting of operational protocols that would form the ministry’s backbone. Sydani also supported the creation of data collection and management systems to ensure that decisions were informed by up-to-date and accurate information.
Additionally, in a second phase of support, Sydani played a key role in the Sub-committee on Planning, which was responsible for driving the Consultative Workshop on Livestock Reforms, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the sector’s transformation.
Result:
The technical assistance has already yielded significant outcomes. The strategic plan for the FMLD’s establishment is well underway, with foundational frameworks and data-driven decision-making mechanisms being implemented. The Inception Report has provided a clear operational framework for the ministry. Sydani’s support in the Sub-committee on Planning has further ensured the success of the Stakeholder
Workshop plan, which will engage key actors in the sector’s reforms. Ongoing capacity-building efforts continue to enhance the skills of ministry personnel, ensuring the FMLD is well-positioned to drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s livestock sector.
