Context

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, through co-financing, supports low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs) to implement immunization programs. In alignment with the Immunization Agenda 2030 goal of leaving no child behind in accessing immunization services, the Gavi 5.0/5.1 strategy (2021-2026) has integrated its various support mechanisms (such as Equity Accelerated Funding (EAF), Health System Strengthening (HSS), Targeted Country Assistance (TCA), New Vaccine Introduction (NVI), Cold Chain Equipment and Optimization Platform (CCEOP)) into a comprehensive portfolio. Therefore, countries requesting Gavi’s support are expected to undergo strategic Full Portfolio Planning (FPP) to achieve the ambitious IA 2030 goal.

What We Did

Gavi contracted Sydani Group to provide Technical Assistance to the government of Sierra Leone and Nepal to develop an application and ensure compliance with Gavi funding criteria in facilitating their request for Gavi’s funding under the Full Portfolio Planning.  Specifically, Sydani supported both country’s Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) to develop a package comprising of a situational analysis of the country’s immunization landscape, Theory of Change, strategic narrative of the theory of change, work plan, grant linked indicator, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) framework and a budget.

The Results

This support positioned both countries to access cumulative funding of over $20,000,000 to implement activities that strengthened immunization and integrated primary healthcare services in the country for the next five years (2025-2029). The implemented activities enabled the country reach zero dose and under-immunized children ensuring that no child died due to vaccine-preventable diseases.
